CLASSIFIED POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Adult Basic Education Instructor
FACILITY: Adult Education Room, Big Horn County Library
REPORTS TO: Principal, Hardin High School
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The person in this position will provide basic skills instruction to adults needing to improve their life situation through educational attainment. The main focus of this position is to help students prepare for the Hi-Set test.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide one-on-one, small group instruction based on student goals and assessment data
Complete all intake forms as required by Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI)
Correctly select and administer appropriate adult assessments as required by Montana OPI
Build positive rapport with adult students
Assess student ability
Ascertain student goals
Design an educational plan according to student assessment and goals
Deliver appropriate instruction according to educational plan
Match instruction design to student needs / goals
Provide guidance and instruction to enable adult students to benefit from their educational experience
Correctly interpret assessment results
Provide appropriate referrals to partner agencies
Maintain a working relationship with local workforce partners
Maintain accurate records, including class enrollment, retention, pre-post testing, and student outcomes.
Ensure completion and timely submission of accountability records
Attend in-service, staff development meetings, and Professional Development (PD) activities
Review Adult Basic Ed (HiSet and TABE) publications
Maintain full understanding of state policy and procedures

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Knowledgeable or ability to gain knowledge of adult testing procedures, adult pedagogy, student educational counseling, student advocacy, adult curriculum
Ability to teach 12 grade level math, language and social science content
Pretest to assess ability level may be required
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with District personnel and the public
Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with students, staff, and the community in general
Ability to be flexible in scheduling and planning
Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities
Ability to handle stressful situations
Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student matters
Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all District requirements and Board policies
EQUIPMENT USED:
Audio-visual equipment, interactive boards, computers, tablet, printer, copier, general school equipment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand. The employee must be able to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. Community:
Big Horn County, Montana is rich in history, culture and time-honored traditions. It Includes the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations. Hardin (county seat) is situated on the banks of the Bighorn River and the edge of the Crow Reservation. The town is surrounded by productive farms and ranches. Coal mining has also contributed greatly to the local economy. Hardin, is located 46 miles southeast of Billings (largest city in the State) by way of Interstate 90. The Big Horn County Museum, Little Big Horn Battlefield and Chief Plenty Coups State Park provide interesting and important history of the area. The scenic Big Horn, Pryor and Wolf Mountain ranges are part of the Big Horn County landscape. Yellowtail Dam offers a majestic view of the water below. The spectacular Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area is host to water sports. This area of Big Sky Country also offers fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, camping, etc. for the outdoor enthusiast. Annual events in Big Horn County include: Little Big Horn Days, Native Days, Crow Fair & Rodeos.
